Jan. 19th, a South Pasadena book club has chosen to feature me as their first choice for 2014. And on Feb. 3rd, I’ll be appearing as a guest on Ask Patricia’s radio show in the UK from 11am-12 Noon (PST).

I’m so excited. Can’t wait to see what else the new year brings.  #2014

Fam, what an interesting exercise this has been for me.

In sharing all of the steps I took and am still taking to independently publish my novels and others books soon to see the light of day, I’m remembering just how much work it is to self publish a book! 

You see, just like being born is so traumatic that our subconscious wipes our memory clean of it, the same is true for self publishing. LOL! 

I’m joking. Seriously. I am.

I just want you to remember to keep laughing. Yes, it’s a lot of work to independently publish a book and if you read the Part 1 of this post, you’re only half-way there, but hang in there, Fam.

Fam, as promised, I’m back.

And I come bearing gifts.

Waaay back in 2009, when I was first dipping my toe into the independent author arena, I was just like you – Overwhelmed by the sheer amount of in…no, let’s face it…misinformation floating around on the Internet on self publishing.

It got so bad that more than a few times, I wanted to give up completely. But somehow after many sleepless nights and hours upon of hours of research, I dug my way through the maze of confusion  and got my novel, Address: House of Corrections, to market.

Fam, you don’t have that kind of time. You’re frustrated. You’re tired and you just want to get your masterpiece published, damn it!  LOL!

So, I’m offering you this cheat sheet — Part One, at least. It’s a lot of information and to keep your eyes from crossing, I’m parsing…

Fam, before I get into it, let me first admit — I laughed a little when I wrote the title for this blog post.

Yes, I do believe that independent publishing is the most empowering, long-term economical viable option for authors.

But what I didn’t know was that “according to a recent survey (as reported by The New York Times, )  81 percent of people feel that they have a book in them…and should write it.”

Now, for our mathematicians out there, that represents over 200 million people in the U.S. who want to write a book in their lifetime.

Notice I said write a book, not self publish one.

Why do I make the distinction? Because independent publishing a book is hellified hard work!

It ain’t sexy or profitable (especially in the beginning) and let’s face it, for most of us, it’s not our first choice…
